COOK WITH THE SUN

CURRENT:LA FOOD

LA's Public Art Triennial

October, 2022

For CURRENT: LA Bed & Breakfast fabricated three solar cookers and facilitated workshops where participants learned how to make their own DIY cookers. Additionally, an instructional publication with plans and recipes for a variety of DIY methods, as well as B&B artist contributions was printed to illustrate the energy-efficient (and fun!) process of cooking with the sun. Guests were fed stew, bread, and tea made with a box, panel, and parabolic cooker. Workshops took place at Roger Jessup Park in Pacoima throughout October, 2019.

Katz's Deli Brunch at 3307 W Washington

August 27, 2017

"The 2017 Katz’s Deli resident at 3307 W Washington Blvd is curatorial platform Bed & Breakfast (Jacqueline Falcone and Daniel Arismendys Taveras-Hernandez). For their month-long residency, B&B has constructed a domestic exhibition environment designed to highlight the heart of their program: a bedroom. Visitors can book a limited number of “extended viewing hours” from 9pm to the following 10am, during which Falcone and Taveras-Hernandez will greet guests with bedtime stories and return in the morning to serve breakfast. The residency culminates in the Katz’s Deli Brunch to discuss hosting as an embodied exhibition practice."

The Wrong Place at Locust Projects

September, 2015

"Transcending beyond the mode of apartment gallery, Bed and Breakfast embraces context and situation-specificity by placing artworks and exhibitions in the intimate setting of a private bedroom. Here, social structures and artistic content blend to the tune of domesticity, in relation to the concept of “spatial politics” Miwon Kwon has described in her essay The Wrong Place. This roundtable invites us to consider the presentation of art outside of the traditional contexts of museums or galleries and the impact that has upon the artwork, intentional viewers, and unintentional participants."
